The Gamble Mansion - Ellenton FL

You’ll find one of the best Florida State Parks just south of Tampa – The Gamble Mansion. This Ellenton mansion was home to General Gamble and served as the headquarters of a massive sugar plantation. In fact, it’s the only surviving plantation in South Florida.

Confederate Secretary of State Judah P. Benjamin is believed to have taken refuge at The Gamble Mansion after the fall of the Confederacy. He later secured safe passage to England.

Fast-forward to 1925 and United Daughters of the Confederacy saved the property from complete ruin and then donated it to the state of Florida. It was then transformed into a beautiful state park.

The Gamble Mansion is a great place for an afternoon picnic where you can also learn about the local history while enjoying delicious food. The park boasts beautiful manicured lawns that stretch 17 acres, making it a popular place to host weddings, take dogs for a scenic walk, or simply rest while enjoying a book.

The outside of the mansion has recently been remodeled but the interior is still decorated in the mid-19th century style. It feels like stepping into the past!

The Gamble Mansion’s Guided Tours Let you Experience History

You can get guided tours of the mansion on Monday thru Thursday. These are scheduled in advance and the staff usually opens up six touring times per day. The exact times might vary.
